Fresh FM fundraiser
Fresh FM presents the Nelson-made, feature length documentary Our Green Roadie by Emma Heke. Stories from 50 New Zealanders living and working green. Emma opens the screening at The Village Theatre in Takaka Tuesday May 21. Adults $12, students $10, children $7. Doors open at 7,30pm. Wine and beer available. All proceeds go to support Fresh FM.

A fun quiz night and auction for the Nelson Ark is on at the Boathouse, Nelson on Saturday May 25. Doors open at 6.30pm, Quiz starts at 7pm. $10 per person. To register email infothenelsonark@silkweb.net.nz by May 20.

Celebrate NZ Music Month with a free concert by Motueka High School students, Friday May 24 from 12.30pm at the Motueka Library.
Folk rock at Boathouse
The Shot Band and Katie Thompson are back at the Boathouse with their signature country folk rock, Friday May 24 from 8pm. Tickets $20 on the door.
Live Poets
The Nelson Live Poets Society presents Poetry Slam, a competition where 12 poets perform their own work from memory and are then ranked by audience reaction and a judges panel. The Yurt at The Free House, Monday May 27. Doors open at 6pm, live music from 6.30pm and poetry slam from 7pm. Gold coin entry.
Anti-Monsanto demonstration
Join a world day of action against the Monsanto Corporation on Saturday May 25. Assemble at Miller’s Acre at 1pm for a march down Trafalgar Street.
Doco at the Suter
The award winning NZ documentary Maori Boy Genius screens Friday May 17 at the Suter Theatre and is followed by a question and answer session with producer/director Pietre Brettkelly. Tickets available from State Cinemas.
Uke it up
The Ukes of Hazard, the Uklectics and the Ukuholics rock the Playhouse for Ukefest 2013 on Saturday May 18. Dinner at 6pm with the show at 7.30pm.

A Night in New York is a fundraiser to help Laura Irish attend the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City. Performances include American singer Michael O’Malley, Doug Brooks and Luke Burke, Roger Sanders, Isaac Thomas, the Dolly Pops and Members of the Deep End – plus a performance by Laura herself. Saturday May 18 from 7.30pm at Fairfield House. Entry by donation.
Film Society surreal offerings
Nelson Film Society presents The Seashell and the Clergyman and Blood of a Poet, two enigmatic surrealist classics from Germaine Dulac and Jean Cocteau. Thursday May 16 from 6pm at the Suter Cinema on Bridge Street. For additional information ring 548 3560.

Motueka Grey Power holds its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, May 15 from 1.30pm at Community House, Deck's Reserve in Motueka. Speaker is Chairman of the Motueka Community Board, David Ogilvie, discussing Motueka's future. Refreshments and nibbles to follow.

FC Nelson holds free soccer development sessions at Neale Park on Sundays at 9am for the next eight weeks for grades 10, 11 and 12. Women Parenting Alone is a social group for women to share the demands of parenting on their own, or just get together for a cuppa for adult time, every Friday from 10.30am to noon at the Nelson Women’s Centre.
